Summer brings longer days and more time to explore the outdoors. Roswell Arts Fund in partnership with the City of Roswell has added a new way to explore one of Roswell's parks with the unveiling of a new temporary public art installation for all to enjoy. Follow the well traversed path at Don White Memorial Park and discover fun, new sculptures and installations peeking out from the trees and greeting you along the way.
For this blogpost, we chatted with the Roswell Arts Fund to learn more about this new project.
Visit Roswell: Roswell Arts Fund has a new program this summer, ArtAround: Pathways. Tell us about it.
Roswell Arts Fund: ArtAround: Pathways is a project from Roswell Arts Fund in partnership with the City the Roswell celebrating the beauty of Roswell by intertwining art and nature. Open now through the end of September, Pathways is a free, family friendly, outdoor exhibition along the trails at Don White Memorial Park. It features over 30 stunning temporary installations and then on select Sundays there are captivating performances including theatre, aerialists, dance, music and more to accompany the visual works.
Visit Roswell: For people who are familiar with it, Roswell Arts Fund has had the ArtAround Tour that features temporary and permanent sculptures around the city, how does this new program fit in with it and differ?
Roswell Arts Fund: Pathways can be seen as an extension of the ArtAround Sculptures. The temporary and permanent sculptures in the ArtAround collection are all monumental in size and placed throughout the City. Pathways features a variety of sizes and types of installations and they are placed along the trails at Don White with the idea that as you travel the “pathways” around the park you are encountering art and creativity in new ways. As you walk the trail look up and all around, take in the sculptures from different angles and around the corners, there’s always something new to see! Pathways also incorporates performance in to the exhibit. We have an incredible lineup of performers who will present alongside the visual installations and on the stage at Riverside. We also just added free workshops for the community with some of the artists – including making a puppet out of objects that might otherwise be tossed!
Visit Roswell: Where can people experience ArtAround: Pathways?
Roswell Arts Fund: The visual installations are along the trails near Don White Memorial Park. The performances will be both along the trails and at Riverside Stage. Most days there are performances in multiple locations.
Visit Roswell: What kind of performances can we expect to see?
Roswell Arts Fund: We are delighted with the roster of artists who will be performing throughout the summer. Georgia Ensemble will be presenting scenes from Midsummer Night’s Dream along the trail, Sideways Dance and Full Radius Dance are creating works in response to some of the visual installations, Inverted Circus is bringing their aerial show and a variety of musicians including Barbershop to Flamenco to Americana and everything in between are popping up throughout. A full schedule of performances and workshops is available on our website.
Visit Roswell: Is this planning to be an annual feature in Roswell?
Roswell Arts Fund: This exhibit is planned to be an annual event with similar exhibits across the City of Roswell. However, this exhibit must be successful to ensure future temporary works. This means having great attendance, sharing feedback, and sharing across our social media. In the middle of the fiscal year, the City of Roswell will decide if another exhibit is warranted. We sure hope there will be!
Visit Roswell: What's up next for Roswell Arts Fund?
Roswell Arts Fund: We are thrilled to share that the 3rd Annual Beaucoup Jazz and Blues Festival and Pop Up Art Village will be on September 30th! The 2023 lineup features Jason Marsalis, Eddie 9V, Joe Alterman Trio, The Hibbard/Wright Project, Tyler Neal Band, and Roswell’s own Tritone Youth Orchestra! In addition to the fabulous music, From the Earth Brewing Company will lead the food and beverage tents, the Pop Up Artist Village will return and more to come! The last two years have been a blast and we can’t wait to dance the day away with the community again!
