Kids' Saturdays: Gold and Treasure Panning
Learn about Georgia's first gold rush while panning for gold and other treasures.
Did you know that the first gold rush in the U.S. was in Georgia and it was 20 years before the California Gold Rush? The 1828 gold rush was a central reason why Roswell was founded by wealthy coastal Georgia families. Explore the 1828 gold rush and discover what brought settlers to north Georgia. Also, learn how to pan for gold! This drop-in activity will be at the Old Machine Shop directly next to the covered bridge at Old Mill Park. (Parental advisory: small plastic pieces are part of this activity). Ages 7-12.
